In March 1907 the French newspaper Le Matin published the following challenge:

“Will anyone agree to go, this summer, from Peking to Paris by motor car?”

The call was answered and in June 1907 five cars set out from the Chinese capital in a race which traversed China, Mongolia, Siberia, Russia and Europe. The winner, Prince Scipione Borghese arrived in Paris 3 months later in his Itala motor car, having covered a distance of 8000 miles.

Approximately 100 years on, a team of five gentlemen will depart from Beijing and retrace the pioneer racers route, in a 1907 French Mors racing Car that they are building specifically for the challenge.

DELAY IN DEPARTURE.

It may surprise some readers, but we are actually still here and not in the depths of the Gobi!

This unfortunate delay is frustrating, but is due to a lack of correct licence's for the Chinese leg of our journey. It appears that we have somewhat underestimated the time and bureaucracy involved in getting the required paperwork for an expedition like this when undertaken by a small group such as ours.

Rest assured, we will still be going and will of course keep everyone updated on our progress with the preparations via the wonders of the World Wide Web and our “Blog”.
